MP3 download: Scott Meyer interview
Small towns have a future. Despite all the negative press, I have a positive view of rural, and I talk to others who share it. Small towns play a key role in our world. Everyone else better get used to us, because we aren’t going away!
Scott Meyer
Scott Meyer and I met at SXSW. We were both glad to find another small town tech geek! We reconnected recently around Scott’s blog, Digital Homesteading, and his podcast there. I realized we shared a lot of the same views on small towns. Positive views, of course. Scott was caring for his brand new daughter Amelia during our interview, so we’ll consider this her podcast debut.
Why this podcast exists
If you’re “just a business owner” or “just” someone in a small town, you often feel like you’re the only one. Either the only one with a positive outlook or the only one who is trying to create change. The whole point of this podcast is to bring all of us together. You are not alone.
That’s why I’ve started interviewing people who share my positive view of rural. After Mike, I have two sessions recorded with Deb Brown, of The Tour of Empty Buildings fame.
To keep this going, I need to know who you think I should talk to. Who else shares a positive view of rural? You? A friend? Someone you know? Give me your suggestions in the comments.

How about interviewing someone involved with The Merchantile in Powell, Wyoming (a community owned department store). I have spoken with them and they are very encouraging.
Becky McCray says
Lila, I love that idea! Add The Mercantile to my list. Thank you!

The Cuba, MO CVB would make an interesting interview.
Becky McCray says
Great idea, Miss Dazey!
