My name is Kathy Oxford, economic developer for Barnesville-Lamar County Georgia, a town about an hour south of Atlanta with about 7000 people. I want to brag on a shiny new high school that will open in August. It is the first high school built here since the mid-70s and it’s about time students had something new to enjoy. I don’t think you HAVE to have a new high school to get a good education but how awesome is it to have up-to-date fixtures and labs that are industry certified in your career and technical ed classrooms? How awesome is it to have state of the art technologies and roofs that don’t leak? Today, they started demolishing the old high school which honestly is bittersweet for many locals but we’re all hoping the memories live on for those who came before and new ones will be made just as special for those who walk the halls in the future!

Kathy, that’s terrific for students and the community! We can all imagine the best and worst of switching buildings like this, and we’re all happy for your progress!
