I recently found Ben Means Business, a great blog on small business topics. Ben found me through Twitter and I want to share his blog with you. http://www.ben-means-business.com
His most recent article had some helpful hints on choosing a name for a new business. He started with three questions; Is it descriptive?; Is it memorable?; Is it timeless? His examples are real world and will make you think about that most important step in start up; What’s My Name!

Ben Means Business is a great and very resourceful site. I’d also like to recommend Entrepreneur.com’s Tools, they have tons of great tools you can use when you’re starting and managing a small business. I’ve had my own online store at WebStore by Amazon for a few years now, and I’ve found Entrepreneur’s tools and magazine a huge help.

This probably isn’t quite as useful of a resource, since it tends to be more product based (although that can also be the name of the biz for many entrepreneurs), but I often catch the Big Idea with Donny Deutsch on CNBC, and he has two segments called One Minute to Millions and Million Dollar Question, and both of these often have entrepreneurs who want to know if the name of their product/business is the best it can be. Sometimes just Donny comments, and sometimes he brings in a panel of biz execs and celebrities to comment. The insights are often good, since these are not widely known names and the first impressions carry a lot of weight.

Mark, that’s a novel way to think about business naming. Just listening to those discussions could help you think more critically about names. Thanks for the idea!
